Notes from the May Meeting
Stika Concrete was awarded the street maintenance contract and will begin slab work in the Forest Haven area within the next 3 to 4 weeks, weather permitting.

The 2011-2012 Fiscal Year Budget was passed.  Some numbers of note; the Police Contract with St. Louis County Police decreased about $100.  Add this to the expected 3% rate of increase factored into the Budget and it actually is a savings of roughly $4,000.  Despite a loss of population and consequently a loss in per capita tax revenues, other tax revenues are projected to be up slightly over last year.  This allows for a significant increase in Road Maintenance spending.

We are in the process of revamping the website and adding more information and new features.  The changes should be complete within the next several weeks.

Notes from the April Meeting
First, we would like to thank all the residents who not only attended the meeting, but also stayed through two tornado warnings and adjournment to the lower level.  Despite the weather, we did complete the April regular meeting.

With certified April elections, the three trustees were sworn in; newly elected Mark Kienstra, and incumbents Bob Bess and Richard Muraski.  The current positions on the Board are as follows: Chairwoman Cathy Forand, Treasurer Mark Kienstra, Building and Streets Commissioner Bob Bess and Village Clerk Richard Muraski.  Community Relations Director is vacant.

Mudjacking will once again commence on Thursday, April 21, throughout the Forest Haven West area, weather permitting of course.  Significant street repairs will begin throughout the Village in the near future.

Grantwood proclaimed April 29th as Arbor Day and will hold a small ceremony marking the occasion.  Details will follow, but tentative plans include a tree planting at the Town Hall at 4:30pm on April 29.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

Two Grantwoodians National Merit Finalists

Two of Grantwood Village's high school students have just been named National Merit finalists. Seniors Gretchen Kohl, daughter of Tim and Margie Kohl, and Kevin Bock, son of Dan and Sarah Bock have been selected from over 16,000 semifinalists. It's a high honor to be two of the six Lindbergh High School finalists, and to qualify for prestigious National Merit scholarships. We are proud of you for your accomplishment.

Sunset Hills Tornado Relief Drive - Update

Your  Board of Trustees sincerely thanks the residents and neighbors of Grantwood Village for making our Saturday Sunset Hills tornado relief event such a success. Through the generosity of all those who responded, we were able to raise over $7,400.00 in cash toward direct relief for those most affected by the December 31st tornado. Mayor Bill Nolan collected the proceeds personally, and was clearly touched by the outpouring of support from this community.

We also would like to thank Walk-Away Waffles and LeGrand's Catering for providing both good company and fine refreshments toward this effort.

Please know that, even though this particular event has passed, the need goes on. Your cash donations are much appreciated and go directly to help Sunset Hills residents pay for the high costs of being displaced in mid-winter.

Cash contributions can be mailed to the: "City of Sunset Hills-TAF" (TAF - Tornado Assistance Fund)
3939 S. Lindbergh Blvd.
Sunset Hills, MO. 63127

Sunset Hills Tornado Relief Effort

Please join your Grantwood Village neighbors in a community relief drive, to benefit Sunset Hills residents stricken by the New Year's Eve tornado. We are coordinating donations to the City of Sunset Hills Tornado Assistance Fund, and encourage you to help our neighboring community.

At this time it is still unclear how to best assist with material goods donations. As there are uninsured and homeless residents in immediate need, Mayor Bill Nolan has requested monetary donations, in the form of a check, to be made out to "City of Sunset Hills TAF". These donations are tax-deductible, and will go directly to those most affected by this disaster.

The Grantwood Village trustees will open the lower portion of our village hall this Saturday, January 8th, from 12pm - 3pm, to meet you and accept any donations. Waffles (compliments of Walk-away Waffles www.tropicalmoose.com) and hot chocolate (compliments of LeGrand's Market www.legrandsmarket-catering.com) will be provided.

If you can't attend this event, or wish to act sooner, please put your check in an envelope marked "Sunset Hills TAF", and put into the mail slot at the Grantwood Village Hall, at 1 Missionary Ridge. We will provide a receipt for each donation.

Questions/comments - Welcomed always. Contact your trustees at trustees@grantwoodvillage.us, or 842-4409 ext. 1.

Please consider steping up for your neighbors in Sunset Hills, and thank you so much in advance for your generosity.

Best regards;

Your Grantwood Village trustees
