TRIM Grant Completion

Last fall, Grantwood received a TRIM Grant from the Missouri Department of Conservation.  The Grant allowed the Village to perform a Tree Inventory, including type, condition, and recommended maintenance, of all trees on public grounds.  We welcome Villagers to view the Summary and Detailed Workbook provided by Davey Resources.  A large color coded map is displayed at the Town Hall.

October Notes

Notes from the October Meeting - At the October 20th Board of Trustees' meeting, Trustee Cathy Forand was honored for her 20 years of service to Grantwood Village.  State Senator Eric Schmitt presented Trustee Forand with a Resolution from the Missouri State Senate, while Senator Kit Bond sent a congratulatory letter and Councilwoman Barbara Fraser provided a Resolution from the St. Louis County Council. Other special guests included former Grantwood Chairman, Ken Wilhelms, former Grantwood Officer, Steve Wilson, Sue Witte, widow of former Grantwood Officer Mark Witte, and numerous Residents and friends.

Earlier this year, Grantwood applied for a Missouri Department of Conservation TRIM (Tree Resource Improvement and Maintenance) Grant, and we received notification of our approval last month.  The monies received allow us to inventory all trees on the public grounds in the Village, giving us a guide to the type, health, and maintenance needs of our trees.  Inventory is now completed and the reporting process has begun.

Street repairs in Forest Haven are set to begin within the next week, weather permitting.  We appreciate your patience during this time.

Grantwood Village Family Carnival
Could we have asked for a better day for the Carnival? Nearly 200 Village residents gathered for the first Village-wide Carnival held on the Town Hall grounds. Hot dogs, ice cream, and popcorn were enjoyed by all. The kids were not the only ones enjoying Silly Jilly the Clown and the Trolley Rides!!

A special thank you to Officer Dan Davis, Police Chief Tim Fitch, and the St. Louis County Police Department, for coordinating and demonstrating the Explosives Unit, Bomb Dog, and Police Helicopter. Another special thank you to the Affton Fire Department for bringing the fire truck and goodies for the kids.

Notes from the July Meeting
The Board of Trustees passed an ordinance restricting parking on Missionary Ridge and the Town Hall parking lot. After several full crowds at Grant's Farm in recent weeks, the ordinance was discussed by the Trustees to prevent overflow parking at the Town Hall, and to ensure those attending events at the Town Hall have adequate parking. Residents, their guests, and visitors to the the Town Hall are exempt from the restriction.

The St. Louis County Police car assigned to the Village will soon have new decals. The proposal approved by the Board, after consulting with Captain Belmar, will have Town of Grantwood Village Police marked along the car, giving greater visibility to the Police presence in Grantwood. The Motorcycle will not be affected.

The Board entered into an 11-month contract with Village Attorney Jeffrey Duke of Curtis, Heinz, Garrett, and O'Keefe. Continuing with an hourly fee format, the new fee is set at $175, up 6% from the current $165. This is the first increase since contracting with Curtis, Heinz, Garrett, and O'Keefe in 2006.

Notes from the June Meeting
At the regular June meeting, The Board of Trustees passed three ordinances; fence height around swimming pools, police contract, and an increase in municipal court fines.

Residents wanting fencing around their swimming pools now have the option of 4 feet to 5 feet height. Previous ordinances capped the height to 4 feet.

The contract with the St. Louis County Police Department expired at the end of the 2009 fiscal year (June 30, 2009). We now have a new 5 year contract.

Municipal Court fines were increased to bring our fines into line with other municipalities.
